California Gas Tax Will Go Up July 1, But Leaders Say State Is Still Short on Money for Road Repairs

On July 1st, 2019 you’ll notice even higher gas prices as legislation passed two years ago takes effect, adding 5.6 cents per gallon of gas statewide. This will be added to the previous increase of 12 cents back in 2017. While both increases were passed to help fund failing roads and transit projects, state officials claim the tax increases will not result in enough funding, leaving the door open to more gas taxes and fee increases in the Golden State.
